Ruth Knowles Scarlott Memorial Scholarship
It is the desire of Frederick Scarlott to establish the Ruth Knowles Scarlott Memorial Scholarship for students studying Art at Tidewater Community College. The scholarship money may be used for tuition, fees and books.
Criteria:
- Student must be pursuing an Associate of Applied Arts degree at TCC’s Portsmouth campus
- Student may be a full-time or part-time student
- Submit outstanding portfolio as determined by the Director of the Visual Arts Center. Please see below for details on submitting portfolio.
- If recipient is a continuing student must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher, if recipient is a new student must have a high school GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- If a continuing student at TCC, must have an overall GPA of 2.5
- If a new student at TCC, must have a high school GPA of 2.8
Portfolios must be in a digital format and should be submitted to : James Williams <jwilliams@tcc.edu> by the posted due date.
1. Prepare 6-8 images / files – representing a sampling of your best work. They must be placed in a folder titled Lastname_Firstname_Portfolio*
2. The files must be 300 ppi and no larger than 8 inches (2400 pixels) on the longest side, prepared as a Jpeg.
3. Name the files: Lastname_Firstname_Drawing 1 (Jones_Mike_Drawing 1 etc.)
Create a Word document with the following information for each file. Title this document Lastname_Firstname_Portfolio. Include this document in the same folder that your files are being saved to.
1. File Name: Lastname_Firstname_Drawing 1 (Jones_Mike_Drawing 1 etc.)
2. Student Name: Mike Jones
3. Title: City Life or Untitled if there is no title
4. Media: Paper and Charcoal
5. Course Name: Art 121 Drawing I (If applicable)

*It will be necessary to compress this folder prior to sending. Once everything is in your folder, images / files and accompanying Word document simply create a Zip Folder.
To zip (compress) a file or folder:
1. Locate the file or folder that you want to zip.
2. Press and hold (or right-click) the file or folder, select (or point to) Send to, and then select Compressed (zipped) folder. A new zipped folder with the same name is created in the same location.
Photographing Work
