Ejner Emil "Karl" Karlsen Memorial Scholarship

Del Karlsen graduated from the Portsmouth (Frederick) Campus of TCC in 1972. That same year, he was also inducted into Phi Theta Kappa. After receiving his Master’s degree in Education from Old Dominion University, Del served the students of TCC for over 30 years before retiring. He held positons as an Associate Professor, counselor for Veterans’ Affairs at the Virginia Beach Campus, and spent many years as the faculty advisor to both the Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa honor society. It was Del’s wish to establish a scholarship supporting TCC students, named in honor of his late father, Ejner Emil “Karl” Karlsen, who emigrated from Denmark.

It was the intent of Mr. Del Karlsen to make this scholarship available for exemplary students who have demonstrated academic excellence. Scholarship award criteria and selection processes are as follows:

a. Student must be a Virginia Resident
b. Student must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society at TCC
c. Student may be full-time or part-time
d. Student must demonstrate financial need
